The Ionian Islands
Prepare to fall under the spell of these islands located south of Italy, on the western side of Greece. Their lush vegetation, fine sandy beaches, and emerald sea, combined with Italian finesse make these islands an amazing destination. Corfu is probably the best known of the islands and is a Unesco World Heritage Site. The Venetian influence is perceptible in the architecture and in the local gastronomy. The capital of the island under its Venetian fortresses is an open-air marvel full of life all year round.
Lefkada, a mountainous island with exceptional beaches, is truly worth the visit. Paxos, the smallest of the seven large islands of the Ionian Sea, is of rare beauty with unknown caves, jagged coasts, pine trees, olive trees, and vineyards that almost touch the water, a small paradise! Zakynthos, adored by the Venetians, offers a unique contrast between two mountainous chains, steep coasts, and large beaches. Do not forget Kefalonia, a classified island because of the rarity and diversity of its fauna and flora. Once you have made your choice, don't forget to rent a small boat to go discover the countless creeks far from the crowds.
